Employee Spotlight: Sam Kerr

What is your position at Zennify and what do you do?

Solution Architect. I get to solve problems for people and build cool things.

How long have you been working with Zennify?

Over two years.

How has Zennify supported you in your career goals?

Zennify has been a huge factor in helping me achieve my career goals. The company is big on employee success by hearing out our interests and making the most out of our skill sets. I first started out as a developer with no certifications, but knew I had skills and prior experience to grow into an architect. Thanks to Zennify’s support, I now have 16 Salesforce certifications, a Mulesoft cert, and am working towards the Certified Technical Architect title I hope to achieve. My previous job experiences as a developer has led up to this position at Zennify where there seems to be endless opportunities. It’s just based on willingness to push yourself and try new things.

What has your journey with Zennify looked like?

The time I have been here has flown by. I remember when I first interviewed with Nate and Manvir — I was pretty nervous to join a start up company with the risk of the unknown and whether it was the right path for me versus trying to work for the Amazon/Google’s of the world. But it’s been well worth it to gain the experience of helping grow a company and be able to make a noticeable impact. Zennify has kept me busy on numerous projects that has really boosted my career path. Looking back it’s exciting to see how much I’ve grown and I wouldn’t have done it any differently.

What’s your favorite part of working for Zennify?

The Zennify culture is the best part of the company in my opinion. We are low-key and easy to hang with yet passionate about what we do. Plus many work perks! Another big one is we have great leaders in the company that are fun, caring for their people, and involved with the community.

How has Zennify grown since you’ve been here?

I have seen Zennify grow about 5x just in number of employees since I started. When first I started back in March 2017, the Sacramento “team” was just Manvir and myself working out of our bedrooms (Boise had about 15 in a small office). We transitioned to a temporary mini office with about 5 of us crammed into a 10’x10′ room until we were able to land our official first office that we now have about 25 of us working out of. Now with ~80 employees in total, both Boise and Sacramento are expanding into much larger offices. Oh yea, and we’ve become a Platinum Salesforce partner and recognized as one of the best Salesforce implementation providers for Financial Services.

What does your average day look like?

My average day varies greatly, but typical tasks include:

  • Daily stand up for project(s) I’m on
  • Solution designs for project requirements
  • Support developers / answer technical questions
  • Work on internal documentation/initiatives
  • Develop on projects requiring advanced implementation work
  • Assist sales team in scoping complex integrations
  • Travel on site with client

What advice do you have to other’s who are considering a career in this industry?

You have to be passionate about technology and accepting of constant change, so you are forever learning. As an architect, there is no perfect solution and there is always a better way to do something. As a consultant, you have to be transparent and communication is everything.
